Isle of Wight County Museum Curator Tracey Neikirk will host a talk titled Pork and Peanuts Through History Sunday, November 15, 2pm.
Peanuts and pork have been part of the economy in Smithfield for hundreds of years. Join Curator Tracey Neikirk for an informative lecture to discover how the exportation of these products began before the Revolutionary War and continue as a major industry today.
Tracey Neikirk has been the curator and registrar of the Isle of Wight County Museum since 2007. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in history with a minor in anthropology from Radford University, Radford, Va., and received her teaching licensure for high school social studies from Christopher Newport University, Newport News, Va.

Interpreting local history, the museum’s exhibits include prehistoric fossils, Native American and Colonial artifacts, a country store and the museum’s most notable artifact - the world’s oldest, edible cured ham. The 1902 pork product exemplifies the patented Smithfield curing process.
Suggested donation for admission is $2 for adults.
The Isle of Wight County Museum is located at 103 Main Street in Smithfield. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The museum is closed New Year's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and staff in-service day.
